Toastmasters International Youth Leadership Program - Spring 2013

TGIF is happy to announce an eight week long program in partnership with Toastmasters International at three sites in Fremont.  
An adult Toastmaster certified coach will help prepare and monitor the sessions; however, the young participants themselves conduct the meetings. At each session, the participants learn:
  • Speech preparation and presentation
  • How to conduct meetings
  • Effective listening skills
  • How to evaluate and offer helpful advice
  • Participate in and lead group discussions or meetings
Who is this for?
High school students will be prioritized.  Junior High School students are encouraged to register.  If there are openings at the end of registration, 8th graders will be offered participation in the order in which their registration was received.  If openings are still available, 7th graders will be offered participation.
  • Total capacity: 60
  • Total registrations to be accepted: 125 - 65 of them wait listed in case we can open more sites
  • Who can register?: Students in grades 7-12 (please read below for grades 7-8)
  • Who can not register?: Students who have already participated in either of the past two YLP sessions
  • Registration opens: 8pm, February 11, 2013
  • Registration closes: 11pm, February 16, 2013 or when 125 registrations have been received - whichever comes first
  • Confirmations:  Once the registration closes, 
    • Up to the first 60 High School students will be confirmed first
    • If there are openings, 8th grade students will be confirmed in the order in which their registration was received.
    • If there are still openings, 7th grade students will be confirmed in the order in which their registration was received.
  • A $20 per participant material fee will be collected at the first session
Program dates and locations:
  • The program will be 7pm-9pm the following Fridays
    • February 22 (Centerville JHS - map to parking)
    • March 1, 8, 15, 22
    • April 12, 19, 26 (last session in Centerville JHS)
Please read carefully before you register:
  • To register your child, you MUST be a 2012-13 TGIF member
    • Not a member?  Join first (PayPal + membership registration form)
  • If you get confirmed, you may not cancel your registration.  We are too close to the start of the program to make any adjustments.
  • If you get confirmed, you may not miss more than one session for any reason other than sickness.  If you miss more than one session for any reason, you will not get the certificate from the Toastmasters.  This is per the Toastmasters policy.
  • No Shows result in considerable rework for the TGIF volunteers, and possibly spot left unused.  If you do not show up, you will not be allowed to register for ANY future TGIF program.
  • Cost: $20 towards material fee to be paid at door (first or second session)
  • This is a volunteer run program.  Parents need to commit for at least one session as class parent (Mandatory)
  • No late arrivals & early or late pickups
  • Please submit only one registration per student
